New role for funeral director

A STRETFORD funeral director has been appointed to a prestigious post.

Danny Liston, manager of W M Hewerdine, has taken over as president of the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD) Manchester and Stockport region.

He has been in the funeral profession since 1991, starting as a driver at Laithwaite Brothers in Salford. He worked his way up to become a funeral director and in 1997 was appointed manager of B Johnson & Sons in Cadishead.

Five years ago Danny moved to W M Hewerdine in Barton Road as manager. He was responsible for the funeral home's extensive refurbishment which, following completion, was officially re-opened last May by the then mayor, Cllr Vivienne Wood.

The NAFD is the country's leading funeral trade association.

"The fact that candidates for the presidency are nominated and voted for by fellow members makes it an honour to serve the association and its members," said Danny, who was appointed at the NAFD's Manchester and Stockport AGM by the outgoing president, Dan Arnison.
