Prolific burglar is jailed
Samuel Gildea
Samuel Gildea

A PROLIFIC thief who targeted homes in Trafford has been jailed.

Samuel Wayne Gildea, aged 19, was convicted at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court of burglary - an offence committed while he was on licence for a previous break-in.

He has been sentenced to 18 months' detention in a young offenders' institution, to be served consecutively to nine months for breaching the terms of his release licence for another burglary.

Gildea, of Ferndown Road, Brooklands, was arrested on February 26 this year after a witness reported seeing three men acting suspiciously.

Gildea had broken into a house on Walton Road, Sale, which backs onto the Bridgewater Canal, and stole a mountain bike and other goods.

"Gildea is a burglar who has shown a complete disregard for residents in Trafford and south Manchester whose homes he has invaded."
Sgt Phil Seeley

Officers from Trafford's burglary unit saw Gildea nearby and chased him. Before he was arrested, Gildea attempted to dispose of a digital camera that he had stolen from the house.

At the time of the burglary, Gildea was on licence for similar offences and had been released early from a two-year custodial sentence.

Sgt Phil Seeley said: "Gildea is a burglar who has shown a complete disregard for residents in Trafford and south Manchester whose homes he has invaded."
