Metrovicks still searching for win

Malpas 213-6

Trafford MV 131 all outTRAFFORD MV are still searching for their first win in the Meller Braggins Cheshire Cricket League Division One after suffering a heavy defeat at Malpas.

Missing opening bowler Darren Park, who had made an encouraging start to the season, Trafford skipper Neil Gallagher's gamble to bowl first on winning the toss backfired as Malpas built on a solid start to post a total in excess of 200.

Pick of the bowlers again was Mo Asad (2-62), who for most of his 16 overs had the batsmen on the back foot, but was unable to stem the flow of runs in the final overs.

Although Steve Warner (21) got MV to their usual flying start, and subsequent batsmen kept the scoreboard rolling at the required rate, wickets tumbled to a combination of poor shots and bad luck.

Sully Chauhan produced a spectacular 47, including three sixes and six fours, to briefly give MV hope of reaching the target, but his dismissal saw the late order collapse and a defeat by the convincing margin of 82 runs.

Clearly MV need to improve in pretty much all departments if they are not to be fighting a relegation battle for the rest of the season.
