His Majesty King Charles III is to become the patron of Lancashire Cricket Club.
The Old Trafford-based cricket club announced the appointment today (May 10).
In taking on the role The King, who is the Duke of Lancaster, takes on a role held by his late mother Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for 70 years. He is to become the patron of Marylebone Cricket Club at London's Lord's too.
There is to be a portrait of The King in the Long Room at Old Trafford in due course.
Andy Anson, chair of Lancashire Cricket Club, said: "On behalf of everyone at the club we are honoured to welcome His Majesty The King as Lancashire Cricket's patron. We are proud of the club's connection with the Royal Family and we are delighted His Majesty The King will continue the tradition of the Duke of Lancaster being Lancashire Cricket's patron.
"It would be an absolute pleasure to welcome His Majesty The King to Emirates Old Trafford, the home of Lancashire Cricket, if the opportunity arises."
